I used to paint regularly at this boatyard at Hollow Shore until one day the yard owner asked me to leave saying that another artist had suffered a fall while working on his land and sued him for substantial damges (and won). Understandably enough he was advised to secure his premises from all comers to avoid further uninsured expenses. I did however feel that as the yard seems to specialise in working on smacks and Thames Barges it was worth trying to tackle the subject from the other side of the river. I like to see craft out of the water, they seem vulnerable somehow, needing support to hold them upright and uncomfortable out of their natural environment!
