"Boy on a Scooter, Campo San Stefano"


The little boy on the scooter was most appropriately named Stefano and he took a great interest in the painting as I worked on it. I confess to asking him to scoot across the narrowing shaft of afternoon sun to provide me with the perfect accent of colour to go with the cool colours in the shaded square!

"Aqua Alta on the Zattere, Venice"


Sometimes you just have to get wet feet to paint the subject you have chosen. This had so much appeal that it was worth the small inconvenience! The massive bulk of the Redentore and the reflections of the lamp ost in the water flooding over the edge of the wall seen against the light were just irresistible!

"San Giorgio Maggiore from the Zattere"


This subject is one that I have painted many times before but never fails to excite me. I was in place at dawn but the light was reluctant to arrive on this day so I had to wait a while! Te mooring dolphins play an important part in the composition helping to create space in the painting.
